Notes From April 17 Rehearsal

Great job at rehearsal today!

These 2 weeks are going to be tough, I know.  But we're getting so close - I know it's going to be a spectacular show.  Here are a couple of notes.  I may have some more to add after I watch the videos.

Scene 1:  Hostesses, we need more reaction during Ruth’s speech.  Nod your head, etc., as her speech stirs you to patriotism
Scene 2:  Don’t stomp so hard during ‘Don’t Say No’ – try to have your feet be quieter
Scene 3:  Michelle - you’ve probably been doing this the whole while, but I liked Hermione’s mimicking of selling papers while the riveters were talking to each other
Scene 4:  Guys – don’t forget to have your hands behind your back as you’re shuffling across the stage.  Everyone – we need more excitement during the ‘dance off’ part
Scene 5:  Angie and Lucy can move forward about 2 feet
Scene 6:  Harmony Brothers – I know a few of you were gone, but you need to work on not having so many delays between your parts.  As soon as one person is done, the next one needs to do his part.  Also, after you’re introduced, try to cluster more toward the center (the microphone).
Scene 7:  Buddy – we’ll try to relocate the white chair so you can use that one when you sit down
Scene 12:  Background people – you’re still making too much noise during the song.  Only pretend to be talking.  Don’t actually talk or even whisper.  Also, try to have some kind of expression on your face when you were frozen – like you were frozen in the  middle of a conversation.  It’s much more interesting to look at an animated face.
Scene 14:  Non-hypnotized guys:  move to your spot as the other guys are moving their chairs.  You should be in place by the time the hypnotism starts
Scene 15:  Riveters – I know I'm probably the one who moved you up on the stage, but we need to move you back about 4 steps for your song.  You’re too separated from the people you’re performing for.  (We may end up moving you back some more if necessary)
Scene 16:  Spies – there are specific Life and Liberty magazines I want you to use for this scene  I’ll try to remember to get them on the newsstand for next time
Scene 17:  When the g-men and agents enter, we’ll just have Coulter carry in all of the magazines and set them down in one spot.  When you all need to set them down the next time, we’ll work on the timing so you can all set them down together.  (Like the spies do)
Scene 19:  Ruth (and Rachel & Rebekah) – I know I probably had you move forward, too, but we need to have you move back about 4 steps for your song.  You’re too disconnected from your USO audience
Scene 20 & 21:  Great enthusiasm!  It took a little long to exit, though.  Let’s just have a couple people looking at the jukebox as you exit.
Scene 22:  Agents:  You can start talking before you reach the center of the stage and before everyone is totally off the stage
Scene 27:  Tallulah:  stick with the Tappers and make sure they’re in place before you get into your position.  Tiny Tappers – Don’t be silly when you’re dancing.  It looked like a couple of you were fighting.  We don’t want that.  Pretend you’re dancing princesses.
Scene 28:  I could see Rose, but I couldn’t see the other 2 hostesses sitting on the bandstand.  Move over 1 bunting swoop toward the center.
Scene 30:  Marie – you don’t have to move across the stage after Eve gets her telegram.  You can stay where you are and be enthusiastic after she gets her good news.
Scene 31:  We discussed this at the end, but we need to get the Taylors to the front sooner, and see if it would be possible to say their lines sooner.  Harmony Brothers – instead of getting back on stage, you’ll go through the downstage left door and backstage onto the bandstand.

Hi everyone! It's getting better everytime we go thru it. I saw a lot more animation today. It's looking really good. Here are some of my observations:
Tiny Tappers, when you march in for "Don't Say No" be careful not to stomp, you can march without stomping. Remember that you have tap shoes on and they make a lot of noise. Practice marching at home without stomping.
Scene 3 was really great, but that scene is played way over at right stage so you need to remember not to turn your back to the left side audience.
Scene 9; way to speak out to the audience, Elisabeth M. Buddy, Coulter & Henry great projection. Evan, can you speak up a little louder? I love how you're trying to have a British accent! Sloane, I know you can speak louder than you have been. Sometimes your lines get lost. Angela, great job picking up lines!
Scene 11; Good voice projection Jordan & Christian. Addie, Brittney & Savanna, choose a more interesting freeze pose. Also, when you freeze there shouldn't be any movement, no swaying or twitching.
Scene 13: Good job Lydia H. I love what you're doing with your character. Keep it up. Edan, you missed your big moment in this scene. Go over the script again and see where your lines come in.
Scene 17: Agents please try to put your papers in your coats somehow. It looks really sloppy to be throwing them on the floor. Also, you don't want to step on them or slip on the when you're dancing. Otherwise you are all doing very well with that dance!
Scene 18: Great job Kitty & Edith! Nice and loud. Krista, wait until you're all the way out from the green curtain to say you line.
In Act 2 on top of page 36 there were some missed lines. June-Sandra.
Scene 30; Hannah H maybe you should stand up when you say your line Not Professor Sullivan? I was sitting in the front row and couldn't see you or hear you.

You all are doing so well but I would hate for the audience not to be able to hear your great acting. Keep up the good work!

One more thing, do you think you could all really belt out those songs? There are 60+ of you up there on that stage. Our hair should be blowing in the wind from all your voices, and you all sound sooooo good. Let the whole building hear you. See you all on Thursday. :)
